Big Bangkok and the bumpy bus ride

Hey everyone! So we are in Chiang Mai now. We arrived at 5 am on Wednesday by bus and met Jeff and Kathy at the station. The plane from LA to Taipei was so long, but we were lucky to have very good seats and China Airlines is the way to go! They gave us three very good meals- two on the way to Taipei and one to Bangkok. It was pretty funny because we left LA at 1 am and fell asleep almost immediately. We woke up around 3 am because they were serving dinner! Whoa! Anyway... Bangkok is very big and very crowded and humid. We took a bus to the train station only to find out the train was full, but were able to find a bus to Chiang Mai that was actually faster. The bus was quite comfortable and had AC, so it was not too bad. I woke up once around midnight and the bus was pulled over on the side of the road because it had broken down. We were sitting by two guys from Ireland and they were complaining because this apparently was the third time we had stopped. Pretty funny. But we still made it here early.

So... yesterday we walked around downtown and saw a lot of the temples. There are so many temples! Then we swam in Jeff and Kathy's pool which was super nice. Teancum and I ended up falling asleep at 5 pm, we were just going to take a short nap, but could not get up after that, so we slept until about 4 am and then got up. Oh boy jetlag. Today has been fun. We rented a scooter for three days and went to a place called Doi Suthep. It is a really neat golden temple on the highest peak in Chiang Mai. It had a really cool view from the top, although it was hazy. Jeff keeps making fun of me because I am impressed by absolutely everything here. I had never seen banana trees or mango trees. My favorite is the jackfruit trees, they are a huge fruit.

We also had lunch today with a bunch of Thai students that are taking english classes from one of Jeff and Kathy's friends. It was really funny and they were all very nice. We were going to go to a temple in the forest today also, but it started to rain. So we are taking it easy and enjoying the many good foods :)
